An important goal of the National MS Society is to partner with healthcare professionals to enhance quality of care for people with MS and promote understanding of such an unpredictable disease. The Arizona Chapter is excited to present for the first time a multi-disciplinary, continuing medical education conference. This one-day conference provides an opportunity to bring together and educate physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, speech language pathologists, and others involved in the search for answers to the complex problems of multiple sclerosis. 6 hours of Continuing Medical Education Units and Continuing Education Units will be offered. 

Audience
Medical professionals (neurologists, ob/gyn’s, ophthalmologists, registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists, social workers, speech language pathologists, and others) involved in the search for answers to the complex problems of multiple sclerosis.

Learning Objectives
Conference attendees should be able to:

  • Summarize the current state of medical research and ongoing clinical trials as they relate to emerging therapies
  • Assess the role of genetics in causation and individual manifestations
  • Identify three psychological and social variables that influence patient and family adaptation to MS
  • Explain the differences in clinical presentation, neuroimaging, and immunopathology between neuromyelitis optica and MS
  • Delineate between primary, secondary and tertiary causes for sexual dysfunction in MS
  • Understand the nature of cognitive changes in persons with MS and their relationship to disease pathology
  • Identify the factors that impede and enhance employment opportunities for people with MS
  • Assess for missing components of a patient’s rehabilitation process that can optimize their function
  • Understand that cultural diversity is a continually emerging identity
  • Analyze the ethical relationship between industry and MS researchers, practitioners and clients

Register online (below), by phone at 480-968-2488 option 2, mail or fax. Please pre-register by Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Walk-ins will be welcomed with payment required at the door. Download a registration form.

Registration fees
Physicians: $150
Allied Health Professionals: $95

Special Offer: If two or more individuals from the same organization register at the same time, their registration fee will be reduced by $25 per person for Physicians or $10 per person for Allied Health. Offer can only be redeemed by faxing or mailing registration forms together with payment. This offer can not be redeemed through online registration.
