Your Voice Can Change Lives.
At the National MS Society, we relentlessly advocate for federal, state and local government change essential to people with MS. We must work together to break down barriers to care, improve access to quality health services, and make MS therapies more affordable. We must fight for disability rights, MS research funding and long-term care resources.
We are activists. We make MS issues national priority issues. We share our personal stories. And we ask our public officials for change that benefits people living with MS and others with disabilities and chronic illnesses.

Advocacy, the Society and the California Action Network
The National MS Society and individuals nationwide relentlessly advocate every day for community, state, and federal issues that impact the lives of people with MS. Our MS activists are the voices of change for the approximately 400,000 people living with MS nationwide. Led by the three California chapters of the National MS Society (Pacific South Coast, Southern California and Northern California), the California Action Network does the following advocacy work on behalf of those affected by MS:
- Promotes public policy in the best interest of the disability community.
- Engages the MS Action Network in letter-writing and telephone campaigns, as well as face-to-face meetings with state, local and federal officials about political issues of concern to people with MS.
- Works with other California organizations that support those affected by neurological conditions through the California NeuroAlliance to promote access to quality health care through education, public awareness, and advocacy.
About MS Activism
Thousands of individuals nationwide are joining a grassroots movement of MS activism. We give voice to people living with MS. We raise awareness for the challenges of MS and call for change.
Together, MS activists take action and shape health policies to benefit people living with MS.As a grassroots MS activist, you will receive:
- The information and tools you need to understand the issues, the best ways to act on them, and how to reach out in your community.
- An MS Action Alert email when an important issue or piece of legislation calls for your immediate attention.
- Our monthly Federal Focus e-newsletter—an update on MS activism successes, timely legislation, and emerging issues.
MS activists work with the public and private sectors to benefit the lives of people with MS and their families. Most of our advocacy is directed toward the public sector: federal, state and local units of governments. Private sector advocacy could involve urging a health care insurer to fairly cover MS treatments or requesting a local business to remove physical barriers to hiring people with disabilities.
