Golfers To Tee Off Against MS
Hebron Resident Named Chairperson
NORTH STONINGTON, Conn. – Last year 112 golfers teed off against MS, raising more than $100,000 to benefit the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Connecticut Chapter and the thousands of Connecticut residents living with the unpredictable effects of MS.
The 2009 Golf MS Classic will be held at the picturesque Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Conn., on Friday, Sept. 25. The fifth annual event, presented by Dominion and hosted by the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, is expected to attract golf enthusiasts from throughout the state and beyond.

“This year’s classic is very exciting,” said Bill Malitsky, planning committee chair. “We’re offering an opportunity to win a foursome to the world-renowned and exclusive Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor in New York.”
This is Malitsky’s first year heading up the MS Golf committee. Malitsky, who earned his Bachelor of Science degree in political science from Southern Connecticut State University in 1989, is affiliated with the Hartford-based law offices of Halloran & Sage where he provides expertise and oversight in areas related to government affairs. Previously, Malitsky, a Hebron resident, worked for two Connecticut State Speakers of the House of Representatives, honing his knowledge of the legislative process. He has also been actively involved with the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, helping to raise awareness and funds to support scientific research and programs.
“Through his extensive career as a lobbyist, Mr. Malitsky has seen first hand the important work of health organizations like ours and understands the challenges that we face,” said Lisa Gerrol, National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter president and chief professional officer. “We are grateful for the support and leadership of Mr. Malitsky in our efforts to raise more than $100,000 to benefit local programs and services through our Golf MS Classic event.”
More than 6,000 Connecticut residents battle the effects of MS. Symptoms can include tingling and numbness in the extremities, fatigue, changes in vision, imbalance, pain, speech impairment, and, in some cases, paralysis. There is currently no cure for MS, however, funds raised through chapter events, such as the Golf MS Classic, ensure ongoing scientific research to find a cure. Funds also provide for the continuation of vital programs and services offered by the chapter to those in the state diagnosed with MS.
