  • Caring for Loved Ones with Advanced MS: A Guide for Families - This guide was developed to provide targeted information and support to those families who are providing significant daily hands-on care to loved ones with advanced MS. The guide addresses challenges in advance MS. The guide was developed with the help of clinicians, home services providers, attorneys, palliative care specialist, persons with MS, society staff, and family caregivers.
  • Helping Families in Crisis - Multiple Sclerosis adds stress to people's lives, however, the issue is not whether stress is altering the course of MS but how a person can most effectively deal with the stress that life and MS produce. The Long Island Chapter has referrals for caseworkers who will visit and provide a written assessment to develop a plan to assist members caregivers and/or families that are affiliated with MS.

By introducing our support and subsidy programs, while including the wellness activities available our members may learn of alternative outlets and financial assistance offered through the Chapter. In turn this will develop a plan of action that will improve the quality of life for the person living with MS as well as family members and caregivers involved.

Funded by the Barbara and Richard Roaman Fund

  • Respite Home Care Program - The Chapter offers a Respite Home Care program to assist in providing homecare services to families caring for a loved one with MS. The Respite Homecare Program can provide time off for the family member who is a full-time care partner by providing services such as bathing, dressing, and preparing meals in the home by a trained home health aide. Up to 40 hours a year can be used by each family. Hours can be used all at once, over a weekend, or by the day. The family or care partner is responsible for hiring home health aide workers. This program does have criteria and requires application and financial need.
